new roof....
I've got a 22' 'C' with rubber roof. 25 years on and I now live in a very harsh location, come winter. Snow accumulation in excess. I'm looking at a way to cover but...am also considering the Rhino Bed Liner. Guy here in town gives me a $$ of about 1,500. It's 700 to do a pick-up bed.
So..weight is minimal...10 lbs max. Is flexible, waterproof and provides a hard surface cap side-side and end-end. I'd have it done in white. It goes right on the existing roof after prep. I have a couple solar panels that I'll remove if needs be. I do wonder about all of the other on roof things. A/C, vents caps and pipe. There'd be no point in doing the new cover unless I can seal up everything.
Any thoughts?

RE: Going to make a deal tonite on the Class C
tgr hit the nail...ya have to make sure all of the appliances work and not just when plugged into electrical, but on gas. Fridge (cold/frizzed?) water heater, furnace, water pump. Run the rinse water in the toilet...then check in the bottom about 30 minutes later...no water? no seal. That's 300 bux to replace @$100.00 in an RV shop. I personally wouldn't walk away from old tires...just knowck the price down another 1,500. Water leaks into the cabin is your worst nightmare. The costs of repair are extraordinary. Hours and hours so unless you or family is handy...you mustn't ignore wetness or wet smell. The mold and rot....bad bad bad.
Is the floor 'soft' to walk on? Get in the shower stall if there is one...floor soft? soft means wood rot.
If you find that something isn't working..figure 1,000-1,500 to replace. Fridge is 1,500, hot water heater is 1,000. If there are few miles, it's likley not a great find. These things need to be used or they just rot away. The seals and shocks so on.
If you like...take some pix of it, you can mount them on here via photobucket. That and make notes..ask questions tonight when you get back. Don't sign on the line until you are satisfied. The money you are about to spend is NOT an investment eh...it can be huge money pit so be sure you are good with that.
Gary Haupt..in BC..and have spent the loot.
RE: Having second thoughts of having it serviced
AT the very least, because it was a used unit when purchased, if you get it adjusted at the plant, you'll have some kind of warrantied work. If you choose to ignore the opportunity and then have a failure of a component, it'll be on you.

RE: transferring 'C' to.......
Gary responding...tatest. You are correct that there would be infrastructure issues, inasmuch as there would some relocation of tanks, etc. The point you make about the fit...mmm..and that's why I posted the question. THAT one...mmmmmm
Fizz..no, the house won't hold up to off-road use. In fact, I really only want it for snow use. Living in the North, I am limited to months of use, even locally. Once the snow flies, I am parked for about 5 months. I'd love to be able to feel secure in a Forestry campsite, that I could get out. As it is now, I have little or no clearance on the rears for chains. I looked at raising the whole thing and I don't a good response from the axle, frame, spring folks. I can get 'some' height, but not near enough. Too..I'd love to be able to get into Valley of the Gods again, and I can't currently.

transferring 'C' to.......
I have been looking at and drooling over 4x4 based motorhomes. The cost is prohibitive for me, so what might be the alternative? The oilpatch is serviced by lots of different vehicles, all of them hard and most 4 wheel drive. I am looking at a welders truck, a one ton Dodge diesel with the body intact. So..what would be issues involved, do you think, of lifting my 22' off the existing Ford chassis and transferring to the Dodge chassis? http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn203/garyhaupt/motorhome1.jpg

RE: MEATS PERMITTED INTO U.S.?
The absolute best way to avoid any surprises, tension, fines...take NOTHING with you in the way of food stuffs. Nothing. No onions, garlic, carrots, spuds, meats..even soup that has meat in it..and any pet food that has meat in it. Dry or wet. No eggs. By doing this you get no hassles, and then you get to go shopping for all kinda neat stuff.
I am not exaggerating...those that take foods..ask for mind bending troubles. Those that go without....have nothing to fret about, at least as far as foods, eh.

RE: 39% savings in fuel
They weren't recommending anyone draft...they were proving that it actually was effective. On the track, it's very common...stretches the fuel and often gets them past the competition, who has dragged them along, then running out of gas at the the last bit.
Myth Busters....as the title suggests.

RE: They want to Buy my campsite!?!?
Brings to mind a trip I was on, and had rolled into Zion, only to be able to nab one of THE premier sites. I didn't know that, at the time, just thought..ooohh...look, a campspot! Anyway, by days end, I have been approachedc by a couple from the same community as I, and she worked at Mountain Equipment Co-op in Vancouver and hey hey aren't we the best of buds, have a beer, come over to their tent for bbq. Oh, by the way, when are you leaving he/she asks me..and I am more than happy to give them the site when I go a couple days later. After all, we are best buds, eh.
I happen to be Mountain Eq Co-op a month or so later and guess who I see in the store? and guess who is like...soooo cold, distant..can't be bothered to say hi thanks.,..nuthin. I realized right there and then...best buds while I had the site they wanted.
After that, I really don't like people that come 'round asking when I am leaving.

RE: So How's The Carbon Tax Working For Ya'
Hell, that wasn't a rant..rants go for ever...that was justa couple lines.
Gruffy..I am going to hope that the Carbon Tax money is used to better this FUBAR'd world because sure as you know who made them green apples, if something isn't done...we are. I don't mind that the Premier flew private. I'd wager that his security people suggested that. That's the world we live in now.
I don't even have my tongue in cheek on this. There is no shortage of evidence of the state of the worlds water/air/dirt. In some places the pollution is so bad as to have forever poisoned the surrounding area and it hasn't gotten better. I know that the weather cycles, so maybe the ice all melts every bunch of years. That is natures way of a new ball game, I guess. What has not made matters better is the damage humans have caused. It starts at home...recycling? in Europe they are very strong on it, here in N.A.? ha..not. It's hard to expect the levels of Gov't to address this when they know the cost is maybe prohibitive and the voters don't seem to care. I would say I am a Gore believer and I don't buy into the bafflegab that always follows..how he travels in this/that plane or his homes...I really don't care that much about him. I do care about the message. I think the message is true and that we are going to ruin this earth. I also believe that our/your Gov'ts knows all this and what/how could they tell their populations that it's over? There'd be riots, anarchy and all manner of unrest. I think that chasing the almighty dollar has brought us to this point and nothing will change that. Too much power, too much greed.
And I too, am not doing all I could, mostly because I don't believe it will make any difference. I travel in the RV, have a 2nd vehicle, I don't walk or cycle enough. I DO recycle what I can. I don't throw trash out on the street. I clean my campsite before leaving. Id' give ALL of it up, if I believed in my heart that it would stop the rush to the abyss, but....I don't think it will.
Now THAT is a rant....

RE: So How's The Carbon Tax Working For Ya'
Oh..I dunno...this is most likely the most beautiful place on earth most days. The Island, Okanagan, Cariboo, the North...so...if it costs a bit more to see it, taste it, smell it...live it....I'm good for that.
I am parked in Smithers, by a school yard, stealing wifi and waiting till the hunger pangs get by the peanuts and wine so that we can go eat supper. Tomorrow we go to the Fall Fair and the place is humming. So...Carbon Tax? if it lets my daughter live long enough to die happy? I'll vote for that.
ahh..I get it...you are trolling..looking for an argument. Why?

RE: Generator Quiet Hours/Exhaust Fumes
Of course..one could go dry camping at the Rim and avoid the quiet time hours of the organized campground. Or are there time restrictions for dispersed camping?

RE: Camping around the ocean west coast Canada and US maybe
G'Day there...Paul is right on..Birch Bay is a fabulous spot. And better than Larrabee by a longshot. Birch Bay, as the name suggests is on a bay and a great spot if there are kids involved. Nice gentle beach, etc. There some #1 spots on an outer ring, after that, they are all just plain nice. Reservations will be a must during summer months and when you call ask about the outer ring, just in case, eh. Plus, the northwestern part Washington is a great area for just hanging out for a couple days. Shopping, sight seeing.
As far as White Rock itself, there are a couple private sites but none compare.

Perspiring minds........
Want to know what happened to the RV people that elected to stay in Florida last night, to dance with Fay. Last I read someone was playing cards and others were having a party.
